On the snout: Nestle stealing our water again.
“The request is for more water than the controversial Niagara Bottling plant pumped when it first opened in Groveland. Are you surprised? You shouldn’t be.
Florida’s water-management districts can’t say no to anyone. Despite a sloppy application, chances are high that Spring Water Resources of Ocala — doesn’t the clever name sound like it’s a group doing good? — will be getting permission to pump 181 million gallons a year.
The company’s plan is to withdraw water from 10 acres just south of County Road 470 and east of U.S. Highway 301 in Sumter County. Some 144 tanker trucks a day would take the raw water to the Azure Bottling plant in Leesburg, owned by a Fruitland Park couple.
There, plans call for bottling the water and selling it to five retailers, including Niagara Bottling and Nestlé Water, according to a business plan filed with the Southwest Florida Water Management District.
The proposal is to drill a 10-inch well near Fern Spring, but don’t worry — the application swears that tests show the pumping won’t hurt the spring at all. Never mind that engineers at the water district have never even heard of the process the water company’s consultant used to determine the spring is safe.”
We can’t afford to have our water sucked dry.

I don’t know about you but when I look for a leader I look for someone who will, in a crisis, do their research, not over react, take everything into consideration. Actually know what the deal is.
In the last week we’ve seen a lot of ugliness coming out of people just reacting and not understanding. I found it very sad that people could not take the five minutes to google to find out but actually believe the hype that was pushed by the news.
We have got to do better.

Our GOP Governors and GOP Presidential candidates instead of showing how they could be leaders turn it into a way to show their base exactly how stupid and immature they are. Even some Democrats. Do we really need elected officials to have gut reactions like a sixteen year teen ( Sorry an insult to the 16 year old teen.) with out even understanding the issue. If they are too lazy to look this stuff up by themselves don’t they have staff?
What they don’t know is they already have been doing this.
They don’t have the legal right to make these statements. They could make it difficult but it would look crazy since they already have been doing so and this could cut down the amount of money they are given from the Federal Resettlement Fund which would really mess with Florida’s resettlement of Cubans who come here and automatically get accepted.

What I don’t want is a Governor who thinks he speaks for me. Governor Rick Scott before blurting out that would not take any Syrian refugees should have done a few things.
He should have actually found out the deal was, do some research and not totally over act like the rest of the GOP Governors and the one’s running for President. How self centered can these people get? Did you ask the citizens of Florida what they wanted? No. Have you ever? No. Do you even care about Florida? No You just care about what your friends the Koch brothers will give you.
So here are some things all your staff should have told you.

So far this fiscal year, 1,393 Syrian refugees have been admitted to the United States, according to State Department data. The United States plans to admit, “several hundred more” [Syrian] refugees before the end of this month, for a total of 1,500-1,800 individuals this fiscal year, the State Department told The Fix on Wednesday.

“Here’s what we know about previous years: Refugee resettlement data, like many other federal measures, is recorded for each fiscal year — the period between Oct. 1 and Sept. 30. In fiscal year 2012, during which the conflict in Syria was well underway, the United States admitted 31 Syrian refugees. That was followed by a slight uptick to 36 in fiscal year 2013, and a jump to 105 Syrian refugees in 2014. In fiscal year 2015 (which as we noted is still ongoing): 1,393.”
So this has been going on already.
The process for a refugee to get in is very rigorous.
Information about the sponsoring agency is communicated back to the originating RSC, which then works with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) to transport the refugee to his or her new home. The cost of refugee transportation is provided as a loan, which refugees are required to begin repaying after they are established in the United States.
Once in the United States
The Department of State has cooperative agreements with nine domestic resettlement agencies to resettle refugees. While some of the agencies have religious affiliations, they are not allowed to proselytize. The standard cooperative agreement between the Department of State and each of the domestic resettlement agencies specifies the services that the agency must provide to each refugee. All together, the nine domestic resettlement agencies place refugees in about 190 communities throughout the United States. Each agency headquarters maintains contact with its local affiliated agencies to monitor the resources (e.g., interpreters who speak various languages, the size and special features of available housing, the availability of schools with special services, medical care, English classes, employment services, etc.) that each affiliate’s community can offer.
As the cooperative agreement requires, all refugees are met at the airport upon arrival in the United States by someone from the sponsoring resettlement affiliate and/or a family member or friend. They are taken to their apartment, which has basic furnishings, appliances, climate-appropriate clothing, and some of the food typical of the refugee’s culture. Shortly after arrival, refugees are helped to start their lives in the United States. This includes applying for a Social Security card, registering children in school, learning how to access shopping facilities, arranging medical appointments, and connecting refugees with needed social or language services.
The Department of State’s Reception and Placement program provides assistance for refugees to settle in the United States. It supplies resettlement agencies a one-time sum per refugee to assist with meeting expenses during a refugee’s first few months in the United States. Most of these funds go toward the refugees’ rent, furnishings, food, and clothing, as well as to pay the costs of agency staff salaries, office space, and other resettlement-related expenses that are not donated or provided by volunteers.
Though the Department of State’s Reception and Placement program is limited to the first three months after arrival, the Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Refugee Resettlement works through the states and other nongovernmental organizations to provide longer-term cash and medical assistance, as well as language, employment, and social services.
Refugees receive employment authorization upon arrival and are encouraged to become employed as soon as possible. Based on years of experience, the U.S. refugee resettlement program has found that people learn English and begin to function comfortably much faster if they start work soon after arrival. Most refugees begin in entry-level jobs, even if they have high-level skills or education. With time, many if not most refugees move ahead professionally and find both success and satisfaction in the United States.
After one year, refugees are required to apply for permanent residence (commonly referred to as a green card) and after five years in the United States, a refugee is eligible to apply for U.S. citizenship.

We have a Xenophobia problem here in American and people have short memories.

A Pew Research Center survey released on September 29 shows a mixed and polarized response among Americans to the Syrian refugee crisis. By a narrow margin of 51 to 45 percent, the public approves of the Obama administration’s decision to accept more refugees. Democrats favor this move by 69 to 29 percent, while Republicans oppose it by a similar margin of 67 to 30. The split among Independents, with 51 percent in favor and 43 percent opposed, closely mirrors the population as a whole.
Breaking down the response by subgroups, some familiar patterns emerge. Accepting more refugees is backed by racial and ethnic minorities, young people, those with college and professional degrees, and by Catholics and religiously unaffiliated individuals. Groups in opposition include whites, older Americans, those with less than a college education, and white mainline as well as evangelical Protestants.
When asked a more general question—whether the United States should be “doing more” in response to the refugee crisis, the response was less polarized. Fifty percent of Democrats said we should do more, 11 percent less, while 35 percent thought our current level of effort is about right. Among Republicans, 35 percent favored an increased effort, 28 percent thought we should do less, and 29 percent supported our current policies.

So according the news John Michael Janaskas, who was court ordered to drug rehab in Jensen beach, was dropped off at a Walmart because the rehab center “didn’t want the heat.” The news reported that “Martin County sex offender” was taken to another rehab in Miramar. We still have lots of questions.
I want to be very clear. I am very much for good treatment. Our citizens do not have the option of a special treatment houses. They have nothing. Our mentally ill end up in jail. Or they get 15 minute at New Horizens to get their prescription refilled. I worked on a great CD unit in Ft Lauderdale. In order to work there I had to be credentialed. A few months ago I had an issue with urinating for my urine test. I had to pay 250 dollars for a blood test and I was happy to do so. But I (The RN with no record is guilty and has no to proven innocent). These guys are just innocent and through some loop hole they do not have to obey the same laws and rules as the rest of us.
Why won’t our legislators do something about this?
How is it that people are getting court ordered to Jensen Beach from up north?
How does a person who is a sex offender get court ordered to Jensen Beach to a licensed drug rehab around the corner from me and then get dropped off at Walmart? Do these people have the good sense to do business and keep the the rest of us safe?
The news reported they could not say which recovery center because it was protected by HIPAA. People are protected by HIPPA not buildings. Rehabs, sober houses etc are a matter of public record.
The place that dropped him off is Pathway’s Recovery Center in Jensen Beach.

So yesterday I heard a bunch of things. I was told these places cannot be regulated. This place can and is regulated under the laws of the State of Florida which means it follows the rest of the rules that we all do. They will be investigated but we still have not answered the question as to why are people being ordered for treatment in Florida a state with such an incredible huge drug problem. This is like the issue of the Lost dogs of South Carolina. Why are we bringing more dogs to a state that has a huge amount of homeless dogs that are being euthanized.
So someone needs to find out about this. How does this work?
The treatment center dropped him off at Walmart and not the Martin County Sheriff’s office because “They didn’t want the heat.”
So in fact, the people that put us in danger was the treatment center and the person in question found his way to another treatment center because he knew he was in deep doodoo.
Apparently, when he got kicked out of the treatment center he reached out to the outreach coordinator at the facility in Jensen Beach who got him here in the first place. This person got him into the center in Miramar. Where was the person when the BOLO went out? Did this person call the police explain the situation?
So the treatment center has a lot “splainin to do.
And they will. They have lots of people to answer to.
The good news is this issue has put this issue front and center. I wrote last week about motels being bought up and turned into treatment centers, sober homes, half ways houses for the people up north is really coming to light. The fact Martin County has allow these place to sprout up everywhere in our neighbors it seems they have a lot of “splanin to do.
Instead of repeating the same thing over and over again there are things that can be looked at. There is a difference between a “sober home” and a licensed facility.
The sheriff himself confused calling this a sober home when it’s not. It’s a licensed drug rehab. So someone please educate him as to the difference.
“A lot of people have reached out to me this week which is great. What I heard is this: “They are popping up everywhere and people are worried. One person said she is constantly calling the police and no one is doing anything. I heard the problem is Epic is Rio. That MCSO has no interest. There is drug abuse and distribution and break ins.”
Which is why I laugh when some guy want’s to build some massive yuppie land in Rio. Who is going to buy these places between the drug issues and the train horns and the filthy dirty stinky water? A lot of people. Want to know why? All this will get sweep under the rug. It won’t get dealt with.
We know this happens because we see it. I see it in FIsherman’s Haven. I see it at the corner store when someone asks me for money to buy pot. Everyday it get scarier over there.

“For years, the proliferation of sober houses has been a source of frustration for city leaders and neighbors.
Both groups groused about the lack of regulation in place to govern sober houses, which are group homes that shelter people recovering from drug and alcohol addictions.
“It’s the wild west,” Delray Beach Mayor Gary Glickstein said.
Sober houses dot the landscape in several Broward and Palm Beach county communities, including in Delray Beach, Boca Raton, Deerfield Beach and Pompano Beach.
But now two proposals aim to bring order to what many say is a chaotic situation.
A proposed state law under consideration in the annual Florida legislative session would impose regulations on the facilities.
“Unfortunately, there are houses popping up everywhere which are “addiction counseling” houses. Some on my very street. When I asked what I can do about it, the city basically said “Follow your instinct. We can’t refuse because it is an ADA compliance.”
The measure would require registration with the state, including disclosure of the number of people served at each site, and implement background checks. Operators would have to show proof of fire, safety and health inspections and compliance with local zoning ordinances. And felons convicted of violent crimes wouldn’t be allowed as owners and operators.
Neighbors seethe over unsupervised residents congregating in and around the homes and city officials complain they’re powerless to do anything, even in the face of problems, because people recovering from addictions are protected under federal fair housing and disability laws. Clemens, Glickstein and Hager said government officials don’t know who’s staffing the homes, what kind of people are residing in them, or even basic numbers about how many exist and how many residents are there.
“Unregulated sober homes are popping up in the middle of neighborhoods and in many cases essentially changing the character of those neighborhoods,” Clemens said. Hager said the sober homes “have been plaguing our cities and our residents.”
Glickstein and state Rep. Gwyndolen “Gwyn” Clarke-Reed, D-Deerfield Beach, said the number of sober homes increased during the real estate meltdown, during which foreclosed houses were bought cheaply and turned into sober homes.
“Something definitely has to be done,” Clarke-Reed said.
Not so fast, said James Green, a West Palm Beach lawyer who has repeatedly and successfully challenged cities’ attempts to restrict sober homes in South Florida. He said people in recovery are a protected class under the Fair Housing Act and Americans with Disabilities Act.
“It’s a problem that’s motivated by hostile neighbor prejudice against people in recovery,” Green said, urging people to substitute blacks or Jews for people in recovery. “If there was neighborhood opposition to people who belong to other protected groups, we’d be saying that they were racist or anti-Semitic.”
Efforts to impose restrictions amount to politicians pandering to “the voices of intolerance,” he said. “It’s more easy to demonize than understand.”
He said the model of having people “who are committed to sobriety” living and working together is a successful way to help people stay away from drugs and alcohol.”
This is great but it’s not what is happening.
The issue I have with Mr Green is this. I understand what he is saying. but we have no idea who the people are that are running these places. Are they even licensed mental health counselors. We are all for recovery. What we are not for is becoming alcoholic/drug center of the universe. There is no regulation. I’m a nurse and in order to work with people who are protected under the American’s Disabilities Act I have to be credentialed. Finger prints. urine tests, FBI background checks, physicals, tb tests, cpr and more. It cost’s me a fortune to stay credentialed. If a person is protected under the American’s Disabilities Act then the people taking care of them need to be credentialed. It’s not intolerance. It’s keeping the people safe.
This is Florida. Land of the Scam. If there is a loophole it will be found and only until something tragic happens will something maybe be done.
Again and again the people of Martin County are not protected. We are the Cassidaga of drug addiction. Send us your heroin addicts. We don’t have enough of our own.
So these are the big ticket items that we need to know about.

The Bear Hunt
I really hope the FWC who opened up this hunt on bears all over the state that were not bothering anyone saying they were saving our lives from nuisance bears that eat people garbage are satisfied with what happened yesterday. We have no idea what will happen but we do know what happened yesterday.
From a friend on Facebook: So a friend of mine with the county (Marion) Sheriffs called me today and asked me if I was going out to protest the hunt and I said I was planning on hiking this weekend. He wanted to let me know that the local sheriffs deputies were all given an FBI bulletin due to the “High Threat of violence.” Apparently hunters have threatened to open fire on anyone they see trying to disrupt their hunt.

To everyone who was just awoken to the travesty’s that go on in Florida. You may be outraged but I can guarantee that NO ONE is Tallahassee cares. Rick Scott has an agenda. He is doing what he set out to do. He cannot be impeached and he has no remorse about this hunt.
You can crab all you want but if any of these commissioners give you anything you want they will be replaced.
What can we do?
We can make sure the news is reporting correctly. I saw a report yesterday from CBS News. CBS this guy misreported the whole thing. I would ask for my money back. We can let our legislators know how we feel and we can let the people running know (the ones that don’t want to piss off the hunters) that unless we all talk and come up with a plan there will no land to hunt on.

I went through all the permits and only found one person from Martin County who bought one. I was hoping for none. This speaks volumes because I really did think there would be a bunch of people going.

Unfortunately, while we’re busy fighting with each other you gotta know there’s bad stuff going on. Yesterday was a bad for Florida and a bad bad day for the bears and unless we talk to each other it will never get fixed.
Hunters there will be no hunting because there will be no land to hunt on so I suggest you start thinking about this.
News people: We are not animal activists. We are citizens of our state.
HSUS don’t use this as an opportunity to make money to pay your staff. All money should be going towards the lawsuit.

I have for years walked around with the knowledge that someone called and asked us to research Anthrax 2 weeks before the attack and I never knew why. The answer came from a friend of mine and it chilled me to my core.
So because the world is amazing a friend of mine shared this story with me. I have walked around with a lot things from when this happened and one the questions was why did we get the call to do research on this. It came from someone at AMI and I never wanted to get that person in trouble. I had some theories but I never ever ever expected this.

Victoria Romero Huggins It was a very scary time for me as a mother. Our daughter, Summer, sat at the desk next to Bob’s. Summer was Bob’s photo-journalist assistant. Yes, there were at least 3 others who had spores within their noses. I got the phone call from Summer when Bob died. They knew what it was, they just kept it under wraps and out of the public. Her phone call to me was: “Mom, I’m to young to die! I had Sammy in here on Saturday to do some work. Bob got the Anthrax on Friday!” Yes, there were people in the building on MONDAY swabbing everything. When they found spores on the keyboards and hand railings within the building – they sent everyone home. They were not allowed to take anything but themselves out of the building. That very day, they began swabbing the noses of the employees – some were put on cipro immediately. Summer was one of those. I sat with her every day for the FBI updates. I went through the most trying time – she had an allergic reaction to Cipro. A very bad reaction. Then, the FBI decided that since Bob and Summer lived within the same neighborhood, an approach to the Lantana Municipal Airport, they began swabbing their homes and yards. Nothing was found at their homes. We were told at least a month before the press got hold of it, that the spores were throughout the building, compliments of the A/C. It seems so strange that the AMI people were working and having daily briefings at the Sun Sentinel building in Delray, yet they were continually told “Share nothing with the press!” Everyday after briefings, the parking lot was full of TV crews…… I will say this, AMI paid their employees in cash each week, even though most of them were not working…. It was a very sad time for our family. (Now that AMI has moved out of Boca, Summer is without a job since September. She worked for AMI since she was 17 – and she is 39 now.)
Let it be known that David Pecker, the owner of AMI at that time, went above and beyond for his employees. Everything, I mean everything was left behind by the employees. Coffee mugs, purses, their identification, personal pictures and things on their desks. When Guiliani had the building decontaminated, they asked if any of the AMI employees wanted anything of a personal nature back. All stated NO. There were thousands of dollars of photos in the photo-journalists storage which could not be used.”
So there you have it. We had anthrax in Boca way before we even knew it was there and it totally under wraps. So I have to worry about what else was under raps.
We’ll never know who was responsible and I think if Bob had not died we would have know about this at all.
A very disturbing week on my blog, in my world. People who are suppose to be doing the right thing are not.
I can only hope next week will be better.
Last night we had our first “River Warrior” meeting. It’s been a long hot summer in the girlcave. It’s time to get back to work.
This is the most committed group of people I’ve ever met in my life. Everyone has their thing that they do. We evolved to that. There is not a day that goes by that we are not communicating in one form or another.
This morning I was reading an article on the Miami Herald and it felt like no one even had a clue how hard people are working out there. The other thing is people outside of our circle of friends and perhaps some people like you guys on my blog really have no idea what is going on here. We have a great newspaper. There are stories in other newspapers but not like the stories that are written here by our incredible journalists.
We have to be able to reach out and the best way is to be able to share articles on our Facebook pages and twitter.
I’m not blaming out TC Palm. It’s not an easy world out there for newspapers. I’m suggesting there maybe there is a way to sponsor the lagoon articles by the some of local businesses. Or something like that. How much would it cost to sponsor one or two articles a week so we can widen our circle of friends.

Hello. DIs is Barney and I’m going to be 18 years old on October 23. I am rescue dog. I was very sick when I came here and now I’m fine. I’m old but every day is a wonderful day with my food source and my friend MEME (well mostly unless she kicks me off the bed,)
But I’m not here to talk about myself. I’m here to talk about other rescues. Today I interviewed a old friend of my food source. Her name is Bobbi Miller. She started Chesed Rescue.
This is what she said:
“Chesed Rescue started because there were no groups at the time to help with the overflow from county shelters and humane societies only wanted healthy young dogs. A few rescues existed but I didn’t like their policies. They either skimped on vetting the pets or didn’t screen the adopters thoroughly. Most would adopt on site without too much interviewing. Chesed started to make a new standard on how vetting and adopting unwanted pets would be handled. Chesed is a Hebrew word that loosely translates to compassion, but literally means taking care of someone that can never pay you back. So your motives are pure and not expecting a return.
This year we took a heart worm positive pit bull that had mammary cancer and skin issues. She had clearly been overbred, staked outside and neglected. Her pictures tell the story from many months of boarding and medical intervention to the best home imaginable with Melissa Wu and her dog Tulip, a blind diabetic pit.”
Dis is a wonderful story of a rescue dog and a wonderful rescue and a wonderful new rescue mom!
