Fort Pierce police said a man found a package containing 7.1 pounds of marijuana while fishing in the Indian River Lagoon in the 1500 block of South Indian River Drive on Thursday.

The 64-year-old man called authorities about noon to report the find, according to a police report.

The brown bundle was packaged the way smugglers commonly package drugs, the report said. Police impounded the marijuana and will destroy it.
