Fight for the Backcountry

The Alamance Battleground State Historic Site in North Carolina hosts an annual reenactment of the Battle of Alamance called ‘fight for the Backcountry. ” This event marks the anniversary of the 1771 battle, which was the violent conclusion of the Regulator Movement. The reenactment features 18th-century soldiers, artillery, and living history interpreters, recreating the conflict between the Regulators and Governor Tryon’s militia. 

The Regulators were backcountry farmers who were protesting a corrupt colonial government.
