Founded in 1955, the Humane Society of the Treasure Coast (HSTC) is the only open access, no-kill animal welfare organization operating in Martin County.
They were already doing incredible work but then in the matter of a few weeks they took in two hoarding cases.
Please donate what you can to their emergency fund. Here is the direct link.
In July 2026, the Martin County Sheriff’s Office rescued 92 animals—including 80 cats and 12 dogs—from a home in Stuart, Florida, in what officials called the worst hoarding case in county history.
Here are some photos taken at the Humane Society.

Then, on August 10, 2026, Martin County deputies rescued 36 border collies from a severe animal hoarding case at a home on Southwest Alligator Street in Palm City, Florida. The rescued dogs were immediately transferred to the Humane Society of the Treasure Coast for emergency veterinary medical care, grooming, and behavioral rehabilitation.
Because of the legal issues it could be months before these pets will be ready for adoption.
They need money and lots of it. Even the smallest donation will help!
Here is a personal note. I’ve known Frank Valente for years and years. Before he was the director here he was the assistant director of Peggy Adams Rescue League in Palm Beach County (Another extraordinary organization!) I’ve had the pleasure of working with Sarah Fisher and Nicole Hasler-Lucas for the 8 years I worked at Treasurecoast.com.
Thanks for listening. Please take a moment and make a donation. Thank you!
